Looks like Redoubt Volcano is getting ready to blow it’s top (hopefully won’t…joke is that we have a 50/50 shot that it’ll happen).  If you watch the news I’m sure you’ve heard about it.

Kodiak is well outside of the danger zone…so no need to worry about us!

That said, if an eruption occurs, you likely won’t be able to contact us.  Ash plumes have a tendency to knock out communication capability…like radio, internet, phones, satellite, microwave…so if it does happen, and you can’t reach us…don’t worry!  Ash should stay in the Anchorage area, just so happens that that’s were our main comms hub is.

It’s a beautiful day at the volcano…this pic was just taken by the observatory…you can see a steam vent that’s opened up…

Seismicity at Redoubt is still well above background. Over the last hour, Redoubt has become visible by webcam and a steam plume rising just above the summit is present.

Blizzard Warning has been issued for Kodiak Island!

Wow, I’ve started the year off slow with the updates…it’s just been toooooooo cold to go out and do much!
